Halloween Costumes or Jezebel Advertising
I wanted to find a costume to participate in my community’s “Trick-or-treating” festivities. I find that as you get older, the costumes have less material. When are people going to realize that some women just want to be women, not the object of every man’s fantasy? I find it disturbing that I have to choose between showing a booty cheek and wearing a split to kingdom come. Why can’t I have a cool costume for a change? Why do I have to walk around as a symbol of promiscuity? I have looked on dozens of websites, but I find that they all give you more slutty choices than fun costume choices. Honestly, some costumes shouldn’t be worn outside of the bedroom. Unfortunately, there’s going to be one insecure person with daddy issues walking around my community wearing a nurse or maid costume.
I’m still going to participate. You know why?
I remember the feeling of walking house to house as my little heart would beat fast with excitement. I looked at houses to judge which one was going to give me the “good candy.” I would anticipate getting mountains of candy at each door. Even when I didn’t, I wasn’t disappointed. I was just excited to be in whatever mixture of a costume I could conjure up from my mom’s old clothes. People would ask, “what do we have here?” My answer would usually change from door to door. It didn’t matter that I didn’t have a fancy costume. I enjoyed feeling my little bag get heavy. I knew I wouldn’t be allowed to eat it all that night, but it meant sugar on demand for the rest of my life! At least I thought so.
These memories made me want to give that feeling back to some little kid whose parents are station here. Unfortunately, some of them don’t get the luxury of ringing a door bell and shouting “tick or treat.” While stationed here, a lot of people do not feel comfortable going out into the non-military community to go trick-or-treating. In some parts of Germany, the adults stand in parking lots and dress in costumes with their trunks open while kids yell “trunk or treat!” I personally find it kinda creepy, but hey, the kids enjoy it. Sometimes, the adults are in costumes and the adults line the housing area with buckets of candy, and give the children candy as they walk by.
Anyway, I’m going to participate in one if not all of these events.
I narrowed down my costume choices to theses:
I think I would be super cool as a jedi. It runs about $55. But I don’t want to break the bank for a costume. The Princess Fiona Costume (including the ears and crown) would run me about $26. I’m not sure Shrek is as as cool as it used to be. I don’t know. Supergirl happens to describe me well. Plus it looks young and vibrant and it would grab a lot of attention from the kiddies. Everyone knows about the “S” on the chest. If you’re overseas, we have a little of over two weeks to grab a costume. I found these at Wholesalehalloweencostumes.com. They have expedited shipping to APO/FPO boxes.

I agree with your costume assessment. So many of them are skanky. And the skanky ones are getting younger and younger. Talk about scary.
I hope you found something that worked for you. That made you feel comfortable.
Thanks for stopping by on my SITS day. It was a fun day for me.
I hope you have a lovely weekend.
